Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers Client Development Coaching: What’s Holding You Back I’m on my way to Denver today where I will meet with lawyers I am coaching for a second time this year. From Denver, I’ll travel to Los Angeles again meeting with a group of lawyers for the second time. In our one-on-one coaching sessions we will go over what they had planned to accomplish over the last 60 days since we last met. From there I’ll let each lawyer create his or her own agenda and then end the session with a game plan for the next 60 days. A few years ago a lawyer I started coaching came up with such a good agenda for our second session that I asked her to prepare a guest blog post outlining it. One thing ask lawyers when I am first coaching them is whether there is anything holding them back from achieving their own definition of success. I remember young lawyers who worked with me saying: I’m too young. I’m too inexperienced. I don’t have gray hair (now white) like you. I never thought I was too young or too inexperienced and I attracted clients led by men and women my father’s age. I thought of those lawyers when I read a recent Seth Godin blog post:  It’s not your turn, is it?  If you think you are too young or too inexperienced or do not have enough gray hair please take a moment to read it. The first step in this process is for you to create your own definition of success. For me it was never about money.
